Matt. 4:4. But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
When it comes to survival, it is not only physical food that keeps a person alive. You could be filled with food but broken in spirit. You may have eaten but feeling very hopeless.
The will to live sustains you when you’re sick, but depression crushes courage and leaves you unable to cope (Prov. 18:14).
You see, you need more than just food to live. Your spirit, where you make contact with God, needs to hear from your Creator if you must live a meaningful life. A word of instruction, hope, rebuke or direction can save you from destruction. Whereas food will only save you from hunger, for a season.
Do you hear from God? Many cannot hear Him because the access to Him is blocked by sin. They do exactly what God hates. Some live in sin, disobedience and rebellion. Those attitudes at best will hinder you from hearing from God.
How do you hear from God? It begins from doing away with sin by confessing Jesus as your Lord and personal saviour. Learn to follow God’s instruction manual – The Bible. Don’t live in disobedience or rebellion to divine instructions. And learn to ask God for directions daily.
I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.
Jer. 10:23.
May the Lord direct your steps into your place of rest this season.
