COVETOUSNESS

Luke 12:15. Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

Rockefeller, the late American philanthropist was once asked, “how much money is enough?” He was reputed to have said, “just a little more”. That was a man who was the richest in the world at a time, wanting more money. Economics makes us understand that human needs is insatiable.

Jesus warns us to watch against greed. Greed is not just the crave to have more than you desire. Greed is to be in possession of what you really don’t need at a time but having it gives you some sense of satisfaction. It is a vice that feeds the ego. It gives a false sense of satisfaction when actually the heart is empty of glory.

Are you greedy? It is a difficult question to answer but if your heart craves for what you don’t need, you probably are battling with greed. While material possession is not bad in itself, rapacious crave for them can make the soul lose its wonder and sense of gratitude.

To overcome greed, there has to be a sense of satisfaction and gratitude over you have or what you lack. Life does not consist in material things. How grateful are you that you are alive? It is only the living that aspires for more. Appreciate your being alive and get to know the essence of your life.
Say with me, “I am alive for the glory of God. My life is not measured by material possession. I have all that pertains to life and godliness. I am blessed on God.” Amen.
