The strength of Locusts

The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands (Prov. 30:27).

Recently, there has been a massive attack of locusts on the farms in East Africa and Middle East. This has led many Agriculturists to predict that there might be famine in the days ahead. The locusts display a sense of togetherness and unity that surpass the other animals led by a king. The lesson in togetherness and unity has always been fascinating to me.

Let’s see, on the day the Holy Ghost came on the disciples, they were together in one accord. We teach so much about this outpouring, and forget the place of the unity with which they gathered. In contrast to the argument they had about who was the greatest among the disciples, you could see a team player’s hearts exhibited on the day of Pentecost, making the descending of the spirit upon them seamless.

And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them (Gen. 11:6).

Applying the principle of unity, the locust could defeat any foe. Interestingly, they were part of the plaques that God brought against the Egyptians when He wanted them freed. Unity has a way of accomplishing immeasurable goals. It is funny how some believers take pride in having dissenting voices when all that is required is to join hands with others to accomplish a goal.

The strength that comes from the force of unity is yet to be explored. It traverse the physical realm to the spiritual dimension. When two people agree as touch anything, it is done to them because they are united. When the church bind anything on earth, it is bound in heaven because there is unity. There is neither pride nor glory in strife.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! (Psalm 133:1).
Our hearts should keep seeking this togetherness in our relationships, assembly, project teams, workplace and family. If the locusts could achieve great things through togetherness, we are much more well positioned to enjoy the power of unity.
