Identity
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God (Jas.4.4).
Identity is the persona by which one is known. It has the quality of the person, character and traits. It also determines attitude and behavior. Some believers have a way of pleasing the world and attempting to please God. It is a case of confusion and mistaken identity. No one should have double face. You’re either white or grey not both.
This often happens when a person has not understood the complete picture of who a believer should be. Then there will be the attempt to please the world system and honour the principles of God. That does not work with God. It is a form of prostitution since it corrupts the quality of the Believer’s life. The two systems are at parallel and seeking to please both is like a bat which is neither rat nor bird.
And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word (1Kgs.18.21).
At a time, Elijah had to challenge the people to choose who they will serve. An attempt to please two systems is a clear sign of indecision. It is better to stand for something than to fall for everything. Indecision is an enemy of the Believer. It hampers genuine relationship and growth. Who has your loyalty? Are you giving it 100% commitment or you have reasons to indulge in pleasing the world?
