Learning to Serve
So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle (Exod.33.11).
Moses had a servant by name Joshua. He would wait on Moses until he was done speaking with God. Joshua was loyal to his master to a fault. His commitment to service and the sense of duty was unparalleled. Joshua served with the totality of his heart. He had no idea what would be the end but he continued.
Each time we have an opportunity to serve, it is a privilege to prepare ahead for the responsibilities to be entered into. It takes wisdom to embrace an opportunity to serve. Many believers have no idea of the benefits of service, hence it is done with irreverence and carelessness. Service is the path to greatness. Wise people serves well.
After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them–the children of Israel (Jos. 1:1-2).
Sooner than Joshua expected, he was called to assume leadership after Moses died. God is intentional about His plans so we must be intentional about our lives too. Never take the opportunity to serve for granted. We live in a generation where service is despised but it remains a veritable tool for raising quality leaders. If you desire to lead then serving is about the best route.
