Love your Enemy
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21).
The prevalence of evil in the society often make some to wonder if good things can ever happen. Good things happen through people who choose to do good. It takes a mind that is made up good to do good. Nothing just happens without intention. Hence, evil can be overcome with good when we do good on purpose.
Can good overcome evil? Yes, it can. The temptation is to repay evil for evil. However, that will increase the dangerous effects of evil if repaid with evil. The believer is empowered to do good at all times without succumbing to the flesh to do evil. When others do evil to you, do good to them.
If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink (Prov.25.21).
The scriptures encourage us to take care of our enemies. Doing good to them insulates you from their plots and also neutralises the effects of their actions. A good example is when you dip an injured finger in palm oil, and then dip it in pepper sauce. You will never feel the pain because the finger is insulated. Doing good will save you from the plots of the evil one.
The failure to adhere to this admonition will take you out of God’s perfect will into a danger zone. Never repay evil for evil. Avoid repaying evil for good also. Do good to all men at all times.
