Nothing is Lost
But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly (Matt.6.4).
Giving is perhaps is as old as humans. It is an age long tradition that has evolved to mean fellowship, burden sharing and help in most cases. However, the manner of giving is of interest to God. He does not only encourage that we give, he is also in how we give, and the reward we will receive from our giving. Therefore, the instruction is that we give in secret. He keeps the records to ensure nothing is Lost.
There is no doubt that we give publicly and call people to witness our giving because we not only want to show people evidence but we also want their applause. We get appreciated when we give publicly. The giving God will reward, will not be done in that pattern. It will be the giving that honors God and respects the dignity of the receiver. Everything is not about your ego. Some things are for God’s glory, among them is secret giving. It honours God.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matt.6.20).
One of the key drivers of our existence on earth is the pursuit of better life through economic activities. That has created comfort and investments for human kind. However, there is a greater need to prepare for the life ahead, that will offer comfort forever. This future life called eternity can only be invested in on the Master’s terms. The investments have sure return if done according to His principles.
