Paying the Price
For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it– (Luke.14.28).
The beauty of following Jesus is that it is free to start the relationship. It is as we follow that demands are made on us for separation, consecration and focus. However, it is good to count the cost of following closely. A relationship that costs you nothing is worth nothing. The worth of an item is found in the price value. Price is a hint to the value that should be placed on an item.
David was about to make sacrifice but the person to sell the threshing floor offered 100% discount on the purchases. David declined. He paid the price in full.
Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver (2Sam.24.24).
The cost of following Jesus would include spending time with Him in study of the word, meditation, prayers, and so on. In a valuable friendship, giving isn’t an option. God gave us His all to show He loves us, what will you give to him?
