Profiting by the Word

…and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him (Col.3.10).

The new creature in Christ has only one thing going for him by which he will excel in the new life in Christ. It is knowledge. The knowledge of God’s word that shows the exact picture of Christ and His finished work. However, this knowledge cannot just be a mental affairs of cognition alone. It must be both experiential and transformational.

The potency of God’s word is not to be proven theoretically but through a practical experience that bears witness to the reality of God and His power. Little wonder the scripture would invite us to, “taste and see” that the Lord is good. If we must truly profit by the living relationship in Christ, there has to be an absolute trust in Him to obey His word.

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves (James 1:22).

The problem has always been the unwillingness of followers to “try” God through total reliance. Nobody experiences the divine by second guessing the potency of God. A double minded person has no part in the supernatural. Faith is expressed through obedience.

To profit by the word requires going beyond reading to obedience, untill we are totally conformed to the reality therein. There is power in God’s word for those who dare to believe.
